Jackie steals the show

The music release of Kamal Hassan starrer Dasavatharam was attended by Bollywood bigwigs including Amitabh Bachchan, South superstar Mamooty, Hema Malini, Jaya Prada, M Karunanidhi and Asin apart from Kamal Hassan, the film's producer Oscar Ravichandran and director K. S Ravikumar.

Though Kamal is hero of the film, it was Jackie Chan and Mallika Sherawat who stole the show. We hear that Kamal Hassan felt left out and was visibly upset with the hype created over Jackie's presence.

Our source from Chennai says, "Anyone who saw the interaction between Kamal Hassan and Jackie at the event, will agree that Kamal was quite happy during their first meeting, but the actor had a heated argument with producer Oscar backstage, for inviting Jackie."

What followed added fuel to the fire were the newspaper reports the next morning. While Jackie Chan and Mallika Sherawat grabbed all the column widths and TV channels flashed their pictures, Kamal Hassan was completely left out.

Adds our source, "Poor Oscar was caught in the middle of the controversy. He only intended to release the music of the film on a grand scale and tried to cash in on Jackie's presence. However Kamal Hassan, who is the main lead, was livid at being sidelined from the music release of his own film."

Aaj Mood nahin hai

Here's another example of quintessential Sallugiri. The quirky actor was supposed to perform on Saturday at an award function ceremony in London.

But he simply didn't show up at the event, nor did he go to London because - and here lies the crux of Sallugiri - he wasn't in the mood.

Sallu did set out to go to London, we heard. He went with his baggage and coterie in tow. But at the last minute, the star decided that "he wasn't in the mood" to go ahead with the journey.

So he did a U-turn, beckoned his coterie to follow him and walked back to his car. And spent the rest of his day back home in Mumbai, while the organisers of the show in London grew white hair.

Says our source, "Salman was supposed to take the 1.40 am Jet Airways flight to London on Friday night. He reached Sahar airport at 11.45 pm.

He was all set to go in for the security check, when he suddenly stopped in his tracks, turned and walked out. Everyone gaped in surprise."

Salman was supposed to dance to a medley of four songs. No doubt the performance would have been much publicised since Salman is a saleable star, and the star's date had been booked two weeks in advance.

He did have some problem with the choreographer, and had been sulking. But much to the organisers' delight, he had finally confirmed that he would do the show. But, we guess, a star's a star.

Finally, Upen Patel, who was already there, was roped in to help. He rehearsed the act in half an hour. And did a Sallu. "The Upen act was an eyesore. He was booed badly," adds our source.

Yaana is all happy!

She lives up to her name of being a livewire.

Its quite sometime now after she appeared in Dum, dressed as a village belle, hooting out her lethal and electric capabilities. But Yaana has lost none of her lightning charm.

She seems to be in a mood to reinvent herself. First came the change of name. Known till date as Yana Gupta, the hottie has dropped her lastname following her divorce from ex-husband, painter Satyakam Gupta, two years ago. And now, she has altered her firstname to Yaana. Alongside this, she is now all set to appear on television screens in a new avatar: Singer. "I have had some training in music. I had trained in it for two years as a child. I can play the flute as well as the guitar," she reveals. In fact, she has just finished an English album for UK-based artiste, Yoad Nevo. "I have written the lyrics and have sung the songs as well. The album will release in the UK soon and after that in India. Besides, I have also featured in UK-based Punjabi artiste, Dr Zeus’ album, Back Unda Da Influence, which was released recently, and is on air right now," says Yaana.

So, is it a hiatus from Bollywood and item numbers? "Well, the last one I did was for a Bengali movie. But, I am very open to both, item numbers as well as serious roles. Its just that I haven’t come across a good script in the last two- three years. As of now though, my topmost priority is my music. I want to compose and sing more songs of my own. Secondly, my book on fitness will be out at the year-end. Which means that Bollywood is not my prime concern as of now," she explains without even batting her eyelids.

But don’t be disheartened, all you Yaana fans out there. For she only promises more appearances, "In the next five years, you can expect a lot of music for sure. I would like to compose at least two more albums. And I will be performing all over the world as usual. And if there are any good roles, well...why not?"

Jodi No 1 is back

Shaadi Banayega will be directed by Hadiali Abrar who was an assistant to Sunil Darshan and Govinda will be seen in main lead. He is also keen to sign Fardeen Khan and Sanjay Dutt for lead roles. A friend close to Govinda says, “Govinda and Sanjay have given several hits together. The film has three heroes. He wants to repeat the same hit pair hence he is in talks with Sanjay Dutt. Actors like Javed Jaffery and Jackie Shroff will also be part of the film.”

He is yet to sign any actress. Shaadi Banayega will commence this year in June. It will be shot in New Zealand. It can be recalled that Govinda didn’t produce any film after Sukh as it badly bombed at the box office. But after his comeback he is confident enough to revive his production house yet again.

Sanjay Dutt: No Naach, All Gaana!

Just as we were lauding the likes of Saif Ali Khan for being so passionate not only about Bebo, but also the guitar, or then Aamir and Shah Rukh for rendering some songs in films, Sanjay Dutt, too doesn't fall short on talent. So what if he isn't fond of dancing, but music and singing is something he doesn't seem to mind.

In fact, Sanjay has lent his voice to almost eight filmi songs – in films Lage Raho Munna Bhai, Zinda, Ek Ajnabee, Home Delivery, Shabd, Kaante, Khoobsurat, and Haseena Maan Jaayegi.

More recently we heard that Dutt had performed the rock song – Kyun - in Gupta's Woodstock Villa magnificently. He strummed the guitar and played the drums. But now, it's time for him to sing again!

Sanju, apparently, will be rendering the title song of Ektaa Kapoor's venture, C –Kkompany. It's through this gaana that the three lead actors – Tusshar Kapoor, Anupam Kher and Rajpal Yadav – will be introduced in the film. Is 'dutt' innovation? Maybe!

Salman to Sushmita’s rescue?

Sushmita Sen is on a man hunt... literally speaking. Her maiden venture has run into several setbacks and the actress is now turning to close friend Salman Khan with the thought of casting him for the role of Nanasaheb Peshwa in her Jhansi Ki Rani Laxmibai.

Sushmita feels the role is very prominent and Salman fits the bill. Hence she is in talks with the actor about the same. Salman has liked the character and he is quite thrilled about the role.

“Although Salman is yet to sign on the dotted line, he is looking forward to playing a historical icon like Nanasaheb Peshwa. He will have a completely different look for which he is growing his hair.” says a friend close to the actor.

Sushmita is looking forward to sign some more biggies for other prominent characters of the film. Earlier she had approached Akshay Kumar for the role of Tatya Tope. It is also believed that Sushmita had offered a prominent character to Shah Rukh Khan too, but the Badshah refused it due to date problems.

It can be recalled that before this Salman was offered to etch out the historic character of Bajiroa by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. He was also the first choice for Akbar in Ashutosh Govarikar’s historial love story Jodha Akbar. But this time it seems that Salman might take up this offer seriously.

Rani Mukerji dares to step out…

Actor Rani Mukerji is evading the media these days. In fact she has been doing that for quite a while now – ever since the media speculated about her marriage in the palatial city of Jodhpur with recently divorced director Aditya Chopra. But she dared to step out and face the million flashbulbs, for brother Rajaa who launched his tele-serial Kisi Ki Nazarr Na Lage.

During the promotion of Saawariya , Rani tried her level best to limit media interaction. Every interview she gave began with her customary: Sirf chaar sawaal (Only four questions!) However, her recent interaction with the press was not very different. The actor was there only in the capacity of a sister and her role was merely to support her brother Raja, who was launching his serial, the backdrop of which is uniquely a Bengali household, something that hasn't been largely tapped by the saas-bahu serials yet.

And guess what. Though the invite said: Rani Mukerji invites you to the launch of Raja Mukerji's Kisi Ki Nazarr Na Lage, the lady refused to give even as much as a quote to the media.

Well, with Rani refusing to clarify her status or even talk about her films, the constant speculations have definitely made her life story out to be something similar to the saas-bahu sagas. But let's hope all's well in Rani's paradise and that kisi ki nazarr na lage ...but that seems to have happened already.

Chopras ban Akshay Kumar?

Ok guys, here's the latest update on the brewing war between the Chopras and Akshay Kumar. First it became front page news, with Akshay Kumar getting upset with the producer of Tashan, Aditya Chopra for not giving in to his demand and airing his solo promos and now the we hear the apparent cold war has just got louder with Akshay Kumar refusing to come and support the tie up between the Tashan and the recently held Mukesh Ambani's cricket match.

"All the star cast of the film right from Anil, Saif and Kareena came, but Akshay Kumar put his foot down, since he had an tie up with a rival group," says friend of the Chopras. And we hear as a result the Chopras are very upset with him and have decided to hit back by not signing him for any of their film.

"The cold war has been going on for a while now. It started after Dil to Pagal Hai, but later Akshay went and apologized to them, and the Chopras let bygones be bygones and took him back as the hero in Tashan. But right from the beginning they had problems with him. But in spite of that they wanted to take him for another film, but Akshay apparently turned it down saying "I'm too big a star to be directed by their assistants, if the father and son (Yash and Aditya) wants to direct me, I'm ok with him."

It apparently hasn't gone down too well with the father and son duo. "If Shah Rukh Khan can do a Chak De with Shimit Amin, who is Akshay Kumar," says a executive from Yash Chopra. Let's hope better sense prevails on both the warning parties.

Jaya Bachchan in Sarkar Raaj?

Ram Gopal Verma’s forthcoming film Sarkar Raaj is in the buzz for many reasons. Of course one of the main reasons, this will be Aishwarya and Abhishek’s first movie post their marriage. Apart from Abhishek and Ash it stars Amitabh Bachchan in a prominent role. It seems Sarkar Raaj is going to be a Bachchan family film as we were told that Jaya Bachchan will also be seen in a guest appearance.

It is believed that her character is supposed to be a surprise for the audience. Director Ram Gopal Verma doesn’t want to reveal anything at this point. When quizzed about Jaya Bachchan’s role in Sarkar Raj he quipped, “If Jaya Bachchan is in the film, I will go to hell. But then I am an atheist, and do not believe in god.”

Even Amitabh Bachchan too didn’t want to reveal anything about Jaya Bachchan’s guest appearance and he reacted to RGV’s statement like this, “If Ramu has said she is in film then he must know better. After all he has made it!”

However, when we spoke to Z Picture Company, who will be marketing and distributing the film, they denied it. But even they are not completely sure as they have only seen portions of the first half. So the question remains, will Jaya Bachchan be a part of this film? The lady in question was away from Mumbai and we were unable to contact her.

Sarkar Raaj deals with the conflict of emotions between the characters played by Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan. It has a power packed performance by Abhishek Bachchan. His character in Sarkar was appreciated by the critics and again this time he has portrayed an equally promising role.

The first look of Sarkar Raaj is an Indiatimes.Movies exclusive. Ramu explains the creative as, “We have intentionally kept Mr.Bachchan in the background and Abhishek more prominently in the forefront because it essentially means that there has been a transfer of power from the old guard to the new guard.”

Reportedly Ash plays a contemporary business woman and her character is quite similar to Rebecca Mark-Jusbasche head of the Enron International division of Enron.

It is needless to say that Jaya Bachcan’s character would be short but quite prominent in the film. But we have no option but do the wait and watch game.

Who is Isabel in Salman Khan’s life ?

Isabel is a young starlet from United Kingdom. Her passion is to hindi films and Salman Khan is going out of his way to help her. And Isabel so happens to be none other than Katrina Kaif’s little sister.

Salman Khan’s Veer will commence in August and director Anil Sharma is busy writing its dialogues. Meanwhile an interesting buzz doing rounds of Bollywood is that Katrina’s younger sister Isabel Kaif will be paired opposite Salman Khan.

Veer is a period drama sets in the year 1852 to 1900. It will be Salman’s first period film. While according to an industry insider Katrina, whose little sister harbors a dream of joining Bollywood is looking forward to the right film to make her debut. Katrina feels beau Salman’s period film will be the right film to launch her sister. Hence the actress has insisted that the filmmaker cast Isabel in Veer.

However, director Anil Sharma declines it, calling it a rumor “I am working on dialogues of the film. I am yet to finish some parts of the script. Once that is done I’ll think about casting. Right now my concentration is on writing. All I can say that Salman is in the main lead but we are yet to finalize leading lady.” says Sharma.

Apparently Priyanka Chopra who started her career with Anil Sharma’s The Hero always wanted to be a part of his films. It is believed that when she heard the story of Veer, she expressed her desire to be part of it.

He denies reports of signing Isabel for Veer , “No it’s not true. As I said before, we are yet to finalize the leading lady. I haven’t signed any actress opposite Salman.” Sharma informs that Salman gives his inputs in the script and dialogues. “Being the son of the famous writer Salim Khan, Salman has a great story sense. He has a very good sense of humor too.” he adds.

Abhay Deol is all set to play a stylish and suave thief in UTV's Oye Lucky, Lucky Oye. Interestingly, his uncle Dharmendra also played a similar character in Shalimar. Director Dibakar Banerjee of Khosla Ka Ghosla fame went up to Dharmendra to get details about his character in Shalimar to incorporate it in Abhay's film.
Ram Mirchandani, vice president UTV Motion Pictures says, "Abhay's character in the film is that of a cunning thief. That's why Dibakar thought of getting minute details of Dharmendra's charcter in Shalimar. Dharamji explained to him the fine nuances and situations and even gave him ideas of how Abahy should dress in Oye Lucky, Lucky Oye."
What needs to be seen is how well will Abhay manage to step into his talented uncle's shoes.

• You are playing a negative character in Tashan…

Let's not talk about my character in Tashan. Let people see the film first as I am looking forward to see how the audience reacts to my character.

• You are working with Yash Chopra after a long time. There was some problem between you and him over you not doing Parampara.

It was something very minor and it didn't affect our relationship. We continued to interact on a regular basis. Although we often spoke about working together, it only materialised after all these years with Tashan.

• Aditya Chopra offered you to play a tapori in Tashan as he only likes you in those kinds of roles.

I think Adi (Aditya Chopra) is the best person to answer this but yes he has told me that he loves as a tapori.

• You have been successfully playing the same kind of character in all your films like Mashal, Ram Lakhan and Welcome. What makes you tick?

I feel the masses connect with me easily as a tapori but the script has to be good too. I know I should not overdo it as everyone gets tired of seeing an actor do the same thing over and over again.

• But does it not limit your capabilities as an actor since filmmakers come with the same kind of roles?

No look at Subhash Ghai. We started with Meri Jung where I played a lawyer and Karma and Ram Lakhan where I was a tapori. But then, Subhash also offered me Taal and Black And White. David Dhawan is one director who gets upset when I do films like Hum Aap Ke Dil Mein Rehte Hain and Hamara Dil Aap Ke Paas Hai.

• Why?

He says, 'Yaar Anil tu yeh sab mat kar sirf yeh kar kyonki yeh commercial hai yaar.' He is one person who gets very panicky if I try something different.
• Don't you think this is the best phase of your life with Welcome and Race being blockbusters and the soon-to-be-released Tashan?

I think it is the best phase of my life personally as well as professionally. My children are doing well, my production work is falling in place and as an actor I am enjoying the best phase in my life. I am being offered interesting scripts but I am only shooting for Yuvraj right now. I will be going to London for ten days and then to New York to meet both my daughters, Sonam and Riya. I have enough time to develop and make scripts under my banner and my wife is looking very good! (Laughs)

• Gandhi My Father, which released under your banner, won many awards but the film wasn't a commercial hit…

Gandhi My Father not doing well at the box office would have affected some new small-town producer who does not know anything about filmmaking. I belong to a filmmaking family and I have seen these things happening so many times. People who say that my film has not made money do not understand that I will be making money from Gandhi My Father for years to come as there are so many different avenues apart from collection from theatres.

• You have set up your own production house while your brothers Boney and Sanjay are making their own films. Earlier, Sanjay was upset with you since you didn't do his film with Vivek Agnihotri?

Jab hum acting alag alag kar sakte hai then why can't we produce films differently? Sanjay is young and gets excited very soon. But better sense prevailed and he is making a bigger and better film now. He was upset when I did not do his film and thought 'Why is my elder brother doing this to me?' I told him that it was not the right film but he didn't understand so I put my foot down and told him that I don't want to do it and he got upset with me.

• Your family was also upset over this…

My family was upset but everything is fine now and Sanjay is making a film with Anees Bazmee.

• Does he take advice from you on filmmaking?

I have always been a listener in my family. All of them, including my children, advice me. I don't advice anyone. (Laughs)

• Sonam is not signing too many films. Any reasons?

I really wish I were in her shoes and could do one film at a time. She is in no hurry.

• Does she discuss the offers she gets?

If she likes a film she will do it. She has a mind of her own.

• I believe that you didn't know who Hollywood director Danny Boyle was when he offered you a film.

Yes. I had heard the names of all his films but I didn't know he was the same director. My son told me who he was. In fact, my friends in the industry jokingly say, 'Anil is so ignorant!'

That singing feeling

After singing with Asha Bhonsle for her music album, Asha And Friends, Sanjay Dutt will pick up the mike again for Ekta Kapoor's upcoming film, Kkompany. The track will not only have Sanjay singing, he will also be featured in the video.

The song which is expected to be the title track of the film is composed by Anand Raaj Anand and Sanjay is yet to record it. When contacted, Ramesh Sippy, CEO Balaji Motion Pictures, said, "To be honest, the production team thought about it suddenly, while doing a dummy recording of the song. We then concluded that the song can't be featured on any of the three lead characters Tusshar Kapoor, Rajpal Yadav and Anupam Kher since all of them are being introduced through this song. So Sanjay Dutt came to mind and we approached him. Sanju agreed to do it."

The video will be directed by Rahul Sud and will also be used as the promotional track of the film. Sippy added, "The song will be played in the background and Sanju will introduce each character through it. He will be the sutradhar, introducing all the characters. Sanjay has to come and dub for the song now."

Soha refuses to carry Olympic torch

Soha Ali Khan is pulling out of the Olympic torch relay in New Delhi this week. The actress, who has been in two-minds ever since violence disrupted during the torch relay in other parts of the world, surprisingly attributes it to 'personal reasons'. Soha has communicated her decision to the Indian Olympic Association on Tuesday. Soha said, "I'm unable to participate due to purely personal reasons and not any political reasons."

She emphasised that she had not been requested by any group to refrain from participating in the torch relay, however, sibling Saif Ali Khan is set to carry the Olympic flame on the Indian leg of its journey. In circles where it really matters, the buzz is that suggestions from the sports fraternity to allow only sportspersons to be a part of the torch relay has not gone down well with the actress. When quizzed about it, she says: "The torch relay is not only for sports persons, but for people who represent their country in various fields."

Earlier casualties include Baichung Bhutia, celebrated Hollywood director Steven Spielberg who had withdrawn his support as an artistic adviser to the Olympics.

Yashraj's Saif Ali Khan and Rani Mukherji-starrer is ready but the untitled film can't be promoted yet. The director, cast and the crew are scratching their heads, evidently in vain, to put a name to the film. All of them, including Saif Ali Khan, Rani Mukherji, Prasoon Joshi and Kunal Kohli, have put their thinking caps on, but to no avail.
A source from the Yashraj camp says, “The pressure is building and we still don't have a title yet for Kunal Kohli's film; the entire work has come to a standstill and the promos of Saif-Rani starrer have to be released across theatres along with Tashan's release this month (April 25).”

Our source adds, “We are so desperate for a title that now Kunal has roped in the entire team, and has also promised to reward the person who comes out with the right title, he will gift that person a MacBook Pro the latest swanky portable computer.”

Kunal Kohli, the director of the film, confirms, “Yes, I've really been spending sleepless nights thinking of a suitable title for the film. This is the first time that I don't have a title whereas for Fanah, Hum Tum and Mujhse Dosti Karoge, I had the titles ready with the script, but this is a rare case. I am asking the entire team to come up with ideas.”

And what about the tempting gift he's offered to the title donator? “How did you get to know about that?” laughs Kunal. “Yes, I have promised a Mac Book Pro to anyone who gives us the right title. I have three to four suggestions and ideas but there is no agreement yet on anyone of them. The promos are ready, but incomplete without a title!” he sighs.

Abhishek Bachchan ha been reflecting on his lavish wedding, just ahead of his one-year wedding anniversary. The actor, who is filming for Tarun Mansukhani's Dostana in Miami, is in the company of his lovely wife Aishwarya Rai, and the couple is sharing their wedding tales with the cast and crew members of the film. AB Jr who intends to have a quiet anniversary, has already asked the film unit to give him a two-day break. A unit member reveals: “Seeing Aishwarya becoming the bride is his most prominent memory. The couple are having a wonderful time taking long walks on the beach and light meals amongst other things.”

Baby Bachchan has decided to take a countryside trip of South Florida; local coordinators and managers have already planned out the trip and made necessary arrangements. South Florida has a tropical climate and is experiencing the most pleasant climate with the winters retreating. “This is perfect time to go driving around the country side. The temperature is mild, with occasional cold breezes,” says our source.

The same source further reveals, “We were planning to throw a lavish bash for the couple. But they want to be left alone.” However, Abhishek and Aishwarya will participate in a Sarkar Raj event on the evening of April 20 through video conferencing. “The local time in Miami will be early in the morning and the couple will be seen talking about their forthcoming release, Sarkar Raj,”

Aaj ka Arjun

We were the first to tell you that Ajay Devgan is expected to play Karan and Manoj Bajpai to play Duryodhan in Prakash Jha's modern version of the Mahabharat titled Rajniti (April 6). Our source reveals the actor who will play another key character - Arjun - Ranbir Kapoor is expected to play Arjun. Apparently Ranbir had read the script before leaving for Italy to shoot for Siddharth Anand's Bachna Aye Haseeno, and he loved the role. Ranbir has informed Jha's office that he is willing to do the film. Says an industry insider, "Ranbir is new to the industry, but he is very professional and very sorted out. He does not keep the filmmakers waiting for long, irrespective of whether he wants to do the film or not. This time was no exception, and he clearly told Jha's office that he will soon allot his dates for Rajniti."

Rajniti, which will be extensively shot in Jamshedpur and the USA, will have all the political twists of the Mahabharat, but will be set in contemporary times. When contacted, Prakash Jha, who has made highly acclaimed films like Mrityudand, Apaharan and Gangaajal brushes aside all claims and says, "Why are so many people talking about Rajniti when I haven't made an official announcement yet?"

However, a friend of Ranbir confirms that he is indeed doing Rajniti. "Ranbir will soon allot the dates to Prakash Jha," Ranbir's friend says.

After completing his shoot in Italy, Ranbir will proceed to France and join girlfriend Deepika Padukone to shoot a song for Bachna Aye Haseeno. The film will see Ranbir playing a Casanova.

After having roped in Swedish director Robert Nylund, the purrfectionist (pun not intended) actor has now developed some irrevocable creative differences with him. So out goes Mr Nylund, and ad filmmaker Abhinay Deo (younger brother of popular Mararthi actor Ajinkya Deo) makes a quick entry.

Abhinay Deo, who has shot the recent cola commercial featuring Shah Rukh, Deepika and Ranbir, was the original choice as the director. But Abhinay was working on his first feature film script then and had turned down Aamir's offer. Explains Abhinay, "Aamir had approached me almost eight months ago. But I was busy working on my own script then along with the producers - Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani. Eventually, my film got delayed. Recently, Aamir called to check what I was up to, and that's how I grabbed the film."So what really went wrong between Aamir and Robert? "Why Robert is no longer part of the film, I would not know the back-story," says Abhinay. He has just started casting for the film, which has been written by Los Angeles-based Akshat Verma. The buzz is that Akshat was keen on directing his script but Aamir was not very impressed with the idea. Our source reveals, "Such things happen in Aamir Khan Productions and Abhinay will now direct Delhi Belly."

Abhinay, who has just directed a commercial for a cell phone company featuring eight actors, is optimistic about Aamir playing a pivotal character in the dark comedy. He says, "There are 50-50 chances. But I'm yet to get a confirmation." Ask him if he has roped in Chitrangada Singh and he says: "Not yet. We have just been approaching actors."

Shah Rukh is helping his friend Salman Khan with the latter's upcoming television show, Dus Ka Dum. "I believe I have some experience to pass on. Otherwise, Salman is a honed actor," says SRK, who is television's most popular host these days.

SRK is also working on yet another walk. He has just started working on his gait for his forthcoming film, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. In fact, that's how he approaches his characters, says the superstar. Through their gait. He has heard the script of the syrupy love story, written by close friend and filmmaker Aditya Chopra. "I have heard the script and I have started working on the character. I usually get working in the car and do my references. Developing the walk of my character is very crucial. If you have been watching my films, each and every character has a distinct walk and run," says Shah Rukh, who has just recorded a hip-hop song along with Bappi Lahiri. He points out his different gaits in Kabhi Alvida Naa kehna, in Chak De, in Don…

"It was difficult. They made me sing each line thrice. Although I sang quite badly, they have made it sound good," he says. The generous actor has also made a string of guest appearances in his friends' films - Krazzy 4 and Bhootnath. In circles where it really matters, the buzz is that Shah Rukh's item song in Krazzy 4 is pulling crowds to the theatres. But he has not seen his own song yet. "I have not seen my song. When I'm doing a guest appearance I don't ask any questions. I like to be treated like a guest on the sets and give my best wishes to the makers of the film. I'm not attached to it," he says.

The actor doesn't take any fee for such friendly appearances, but Rakesh Roshan forced him to take his remuneration for the song. Shah Rukh elaborates, "Rakeshji was very sweet. He said 'If you say no, I will never speak with you again'. Even Duggu (Hrithik) made me swear that I would not say 'no' to the money."

He moves on to produce his next film, Billo Barber. Director Priyadarshan and the actor has had problems getting an actress to play the barber's wife in the film. After Vidya Balan and Amisha Patel begged out of it, Lara will play the part now. "I had spoken with both Vidya and Amisha. They were not too keen on playing a mother on screen. But I feel today's young breed of actors shouldn't have these issues. If it's a good role, you should take it up."

Pooja Bhatt has found the girl who will star opposite Himesh Reshammiya in her next, Kajra Re, in Pakistan. The lead girl Mona Liza, is a popular Pakistani TV actress. She has been staying in a posh suburban hotel in Juhu for the last few days and all efforts are being made to keep her away from media glare. Our well-placed source from the industry informs us, “Pooja found her after auditioning nearly 70 girls.”

How did the hunt for a lead girl take her across the border? Our source says, “When Pooja couldn’t get the heroine in India, she contacted Javed Sheikh (Pakistani actor) and asked him to recommend some names since the character is that of a Pakistani girl. Javed sent her some pictures and Pooja liked Mona Liza, called her up and asked her to come down to India.” Has Himesh met Mona? “No, though he has seen her pictures,” our source replies.

Pooja Bhatt confirmed that Mona Liza will star opposite Himesh in Kajra Re. She said, “Yes, Mona Liza is the girl. I am very happy with my selection. She is slim, pretty and a very good dancer.”

To be shot in Lahore, Morocco and Europe, Kajra Re is apparently inspired from a real-life story set in pre-Independence India where a lawyer (played by Himesh) falls in love with a Moroccan girl. Everything goes fine, till the day the girl disappears. Not the one to give up, the lawyer tracks her down to a red light area in Lahore.

Finally the Bachchans's can heave a sigh of relief as they have found a replacement for Bipasha Basu for their show, Unforgettable. Preity Zinta has replaced her and Akshay Kumar, who had opted out of the tour because of money issues, has also returned.

Our source says, “Bipasha Basu hiked her price for the Unforgettable tour after the success of Race. The organisers refused to give in and she quit the show leaving the Bachchans in a lurch. Bipasha felt that since Aishwarya Rai was getting Rs 1 crore for one show, she deserved a better deal too. In fact Bipasha confirmed to the media that she had walked out of the show because money was an issue. Before Bipasha, Lara Dutta had walked out of the show as she felt insecure that Aishwarya Rai would hog all the attention. Preity Zinta has come as a saviour at the last minute and will be doing the show. Even Akshay Kumar, who had walked out of the show for money issues, is back.”

When contacted, Amitabh Bachchan said, “I'm out of the country, but I am told by Wizkraft that Preity has been finalised for the show.”

Director Wizkraft International Entertainment, Sabbas Joseph, too confirmed and said, “We have redesigned the show and Preity Zinta has been signed up for it.” Speaking about the show, Joseph added, “I can't give you any more details apart from the fact that the show kicks off in July.”

Diya Mirza is the surprise element of Krazzy 4

Krazzy 4 seems to be an interesting film by a debutant director Jaideep Sen. The story is not just about these four crazy characters but it’s leading ladies Juhi Chawla and Diya Mirza, who play important roles in the film.

Diya who plays a journalist, has been paired opposite Arshad Warsi. “Yes I am playing journalist in the film. She is has a short tempered crazy boyfriend and believe me it’s not easy to have such a partner.”

So will any crazy shade to her character be seen in the movie? “No, in fact in this film I have a very serious character. It is a very serious relationship and unfortunately I am not funny in the film. It’s a small role but it has a beautiful story and I have a very substantial role.”

It is surprising that being part of the film, Diya is not featured in any of the promos. “It was planned accordingly. I wasn’t disclosed as they want me to be used as the last trump card in the film. Moreover some characters are intrinsic rather than the catalyst and the film will not be complete without my character.”

When asked if she is driving any of these four guys Krazzy,she quickly replies “No, my job is to treat them. Juhi is treating them medically and my way is different. I am playing a journalist. It’s a not the regular insensitive or slapstick comedy. Its characters are very real and situations are very identifiable and more than that there’s a social message in the film.” She concludes.

Dare you honk, warns Amitabh Bachchan!

"We approached Mr. Bachchan to do a few video spots for educating motorists on safe driving techniques - like the one he had done for Polio – and Mr. Bachchan willingly agreed," said the DCP.

Tusshar Kapoor and Bebo go back a long time. After her Refugee was an abysmal failure at the box office, it was with Tushky in Mujhe Kuch Kehna Hai that saw Kareena taste box office success. So when Tushky's One Two Three released, he held a special screening for Bebo. The actress was accompanied by designer Shabina Khan and of course, Saifu.

Bebo was soon in splits at the slapstick comedy and asked for a round of samosas. Now we all know that kareena used to love her food.. after all she is a Kapoor at heart. After the first one, washed down by some coke, Bebo helped herself to another, and then another. Once on a roll, Bebo could not stop.

The desperate actress pleaded with her beau to help her, but a doting Saif could be heard saying, 'Its okay, darling. Its only for today. Eat as much as you want. We will burn it together tomorrow.'

A content Bebo finished her samosa, sank into her cushioned seat to blissfully enjoy the film. Now, we heard the film was really silly, but perhaps Bebo was in heaven and did not hear much of the dialogues. And as for Saif, it must have been a welcome change to see his babe eating for a change.

Sanjay Dutt to co-produce with Ekta Kapoor

In one of the smartest moves in recent times, Sanjay Dutt has joined hands with Ekta Kapoor to co-produce five films. According to the deal, Dutt will not just co produce these films but will also be an integral part of these films.

Sanjay Dutt’s spokesperson Dharam Oberoi confirmed, “Yes, Sanjay is in talks with Ekta Kapoor. Though nothing has been finalized as yet, he will be surely doing some films with Ekta’s Balaji Motion Pictures. He will not just be acting in these films but will be actively involved as a co producer.”

According to an industry insider Sanjay Dutt is on a signing spree. He is also in talks with Eros for a mammoth five films deal. After separating from Sanjay Gupta, Dutt has cracked some smart business deals. It can be recalled that Sanjay has a three films deal with Ashtavinayak.

Shilpa Shetty is highest paid actress

Shilpa Shetty beats Aishwarya Rai and Kareena Kapoor in the price factor, after being offered a whopping 5.25 crores for an international film.

While Kareena Kapoor is being offered Rs 3.5 crores for her new movies after Jab We Met, Aishwarya Rai is said to have received Rs 4 crores for her proposed stint as Rajnikant's leading lady in Shankar's Robot. But here comes the big surprise.

According to reliable sources, Shilpa Shetty ('Big Brother' winner and 'the new face of Bollywood in the international market') has been offered a whopping INR Rs 5.25 crores by an American NRI producer for an international film to go on floors in mid-2008.

When we contacted Shilpa, all she said was, "I get what I deserve". Her publicist Dale Bhagwagar was a little more forthcoming, though he also asked us to be patient. "Let time unfold the news. I can't divulge figures, but why would anyone be surprised at them," he asked.

"Since her transformation from actress to diva in the international arena, Shilpa has been offered astronomical amounts by all kinds of filmmakers from all over the world, including Bollywood. But what matters most to her are hard-hitting roles which can satisfy the actress in her," Bhagwagar added.

True. After Phir Milenge, Dus, Apne and Metro, Shilpa has become extremely choosy. She has agreed to only two films since then. Sunny Deol's The Man will see her playing a role very close to her real life experience last year. Her character portrays the meteoric rise of a simple but dedicated girl to instant international stardom.

Shilpa's next project would be Uru Patel's international flick Hanuman, featuring her in the role of Goddess Sita, with Hollywood actor Keanu Reeves being tipped to play Lord Ram.

The actress is currently in Miami, shooting a 'special song' with Abhishek Bachchan and John Abraham in Karan Johar's home production Dostana.

Apart from this, the actress will soon begin a big budget two-heroine action-comedy to be made by her production house S2 Global Productions with some top-of-the-line international technicians as part of her crew.

Meanwhile, we can only ask Ms Rai and Ms Kapoor to wake up and smell the coffee. Brand Shilpa seems to supersede them, whether it is about attracting maximum attention at the IIFA awards, or in price wars. Ajay Devgan: “Doesn't every director want to work with Kajol?”

Soon, in fact this Friday, we will finally get to see Kajol and Ajay Devgan together on the silver screen again. U, Me Aur Hum will bring the two back together after 7 years and Ajay said it was wonderful working with her as director and co-star in the romantic film.

Ajay said, “Working with her is a delight. When a writer writes his book, he uses words to express himself and when a director makes a film, actors like her help convey the message rightly.”

Adding, “Very few actresses can perform like her. Doesn't every director want to work with Kajol?”

He said that he is nothing like the character he portrays, “ "No, there are no similarities. For instance, in the film the character falls in love at first sight but nothing like this has ever happened to me in real life. However, I believe in what the character believes in.”

So when will his next project as director be? “It (U, Me Aur Hum) all started with a thought that gradually took shape. Only when a second thought comes along will I roll out my next film."

Regarding hiring only Kajol for some future project, “Taking her in my first film doesn't mean that I would only work with her. Casting depends on who suits the role most, and for this character she fitted the bill."

Talking about U, Me Aur Hum Ajay said: “I have not tried to make a pseudo intellectual film, instead a commercial one. U, Me Aur Hum is about love, life and relationships. The aim is that people must come out of the theatre with a smile and feel good.”

On a side note, recently there was a screening held by Ravi Shankar Prasad, member of Parliment of U Me Aur Hum for Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader L.K. Advani. Along with Mr Advani’s wife, Ajay Devgan, Kajol, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Sushma Swaraj Karan Khanna, Sumeet Raghvan and Divya Dutta were all in attendance.

A source said, “Member of Parliament Ravi Shankar Prasad arranged a special screening of the film Saturday in New Delhi for Advani, who gave it a seven-minute standing ovation while the credits were being shown.”

Mr Advani, a former film critic said of the film, “The film touched my heart.”

However Rajnikant who will be seen opposite her in Robot decided to find a solution. Rajnikant happens to be very good friend of Amitabh Bachchan and the South superstar had a word with his Hindi counterpart and after some negotiation, Aishwarya signed Robot for Rs 4 crores.

It can be recalled that recently Kareena has been singed for 3.5 crores which is considered as the highest price for actresses in Bollywood. That made Aishwarya who used to charge 3 crore per film, the second highest paid actress in Bollywood. Now again after signing Robot Aishwarya has once again has become the highest paid actress in Bollywood.

When asked, Aishwarya did not speak about the money. She said, “I have always been a professional as an actor. I don't believe in the number games. I believe in my work. I am a professional and other things don't matter to me.”

Both Kareena Kapoor and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan can count their number of hits on their fingertips. Aamir Khan in a dilemma

Success of Taare Zameen Par has proved that Aamir is a talented director. He is not just a good actor and director but a nice human being in real life. He has recently been honored by Coca Cola, who announced Aamir as one of the six torchbearers who will run the Olympic Torch Relay.

Unfortunately Aamir’s fans were not happy with this and most of them requested him not to participate. According to Aamir he has gone through a lot of reading and research regarding this issue. He says, “Over the last few days I have received several requests not to participate in the Olympic Torch Relay. Requests through members of my family, personal friends, people who are associated with the Tibetan struggle, and my blog. I have gone through and read each and every letter, message and post pertaining to this issue.”

He further explains that he is against the violation of human rights. He says, “I have the highest regard and respect for the struggle that the people of Tibet are going through. I completely empathize with them. Similarly, I have the highest respect and regard for the struggle that the people of Iraq, Kashmiri Pundits who have been displaced, Kashmiris in general, and the people of Palestine, are going through. I have named above just a few instances of human rights violations. I am absolutely against any form of violence, and certainly I am deeply upset whenever the basic rights of human beings are violated anywhere in the world.”

Aamir has been selected for the relay because of having excelled in his respective field and also because of his commitment to the cause of environment stewardship. And the actor feels that the Olympic Games do not belong to China. He reasons “If we were to try and find on this planet a place to hold the Olympic Games where the government of that place has not been responsible for human rights violations (in one way or the other), then I suspect that we would be left with very few options, if any at all. If I am not mistaken almost all societies have been responsible for human rights violation either directly or indirectly, sometimes in seen ways and sometimes in unseen ways, sometimes physically, sometimes economically.”

According to him Olympic Games is the coming together of different people across the world despite their differences and difficulties. “It is an opportunity for sportsmen and women across the world to showcase their talent, to challenge themselves and others, and for others to watch and marvel at the achievements of the human body, mind and soul.”

He asks, “Are human rights violations continuing across the globe while all this is happening? I’m afraid so. And I hope and pray for the day that we can one day live in absolute peace and harmony, where human suffering is done away with.”

Aamir explains that he is not advising any group of people how they should conduct their struggle.
